Placerita Nature Center

Placerita Canyon Nature Center

Located near the Santa Clarita Valley, the Placerita Nature Center is the California State Park that preserves the site of the first California original gold discovery in 1842, the wild onion roots pulled from under the “Oak of the Golden Dream”.

The Placerita Nature Center is an east-west running canyon that features numerous interesting forms of plant life and animal communities. Along with the numerous forms of plant and animal life, the Placerita Nature Center contains a number of hiking trails and, as another landmark, has the Walker Cabin (a restored and furnished cabin that Walker had built for his family in the 1920s).

Placerita Nature Center Hiking Trails

This park encompasses longer hiking trails, nowadays, that can lead you to its seasonal waterfall and to the top of the Santa Clarita Divide. And near the actual nature center itself picnicking is also available. This park does not only conserve the wild environment, but also educates the public on the value of undisturbed flora and fauna.

The park is able to thoroughly educate and instruct through their wild animal presentations, nature hikes, and by their self-guided educational trails. Every Saturday the Placerita Nature Center offers a Family Nature Walk and a Native Live Animal Presentation.Placerita Nature Center - Animal Wildlife

Along with these activities, the Placerita Nature Center offers much more. The park has their highly educational and exciting bird walks  (As well as their bird walks at the Castaic Lake Recreation Area that happens once a month) and their “Blooms of the Season” wildflower walks that take place.

Placerita Nature Center Education

Not only does the Placerita Nature Center offer these programs for you and your family, but also these educational opportunities and activities are all free of charge. Would you like to help out the Placerita Nature Center? Why don’t you adopt an animal?

The Placerita Nature Center must be able to provide food and veterinary services for the abundant of animals they care for. The Placerita Nature Center is a non-profit organization that is run entirely by docents and volunteers. This is where your help can make a difference for this lovely park.

By taking part in the “Adopt-an-animal” program, you enable the park to continue to provide its care to the animals that call it home. This is just one of the many ways to help this park out. The Placerita Nature Center provides an abundance of educational programs and activities free of charge.

So let’s help them continue their traditions and aid them in caring for the landmarks of our proud Californian History.
