Castaic Lake Water Agency (CLWA) is a public water wholesaler that provides about half of the water used in Santa Clarita households and businesses. CLWA is one of 29 State Water Project contractors and receives water imported from northern California and Kern County through the California Aqueduct.
CLWA operates three treatment plants, three pump stations, three storage facilities, and over 45 miles of transmission pipelines.

The mission of CLWA is to provide reliable, quality water at a reasonable cost to the Santa Clarita Valley. The water agency was organized in 1962 and has since provided local water and promoted conservation in the Valley.
The Santa Clarita Valley’s available sources of drinking water include rivers, lakes, streams, ponds, reservoirs, springs and wells. Castaic Lake Water Agency supplements local groundwater supplies with State Water Project water from Northern California. All of this water is treated and delivered to the Santa Clarita Valley’s four local water providers: Los Angeles County Waterworks District #36, which services Val Verde; Newhall County Waterworks District; Santa Clarita Water Division; and Valencia Water Company.
Castaic Lake Water Agency’s goals include improving the community by educating residents on easy water-saving practices and implementing programs that reward water use efficiency. These efforts include programs such as the SCV-Friendly Gardening Program and Large Landscape Conservation Program, rebates on efficient clothes washers and other water efficient appliances, and education programs.
CLWA’s Education Program features field trips and interactive student activities. These activities present interesting and age-appropriate water treatment and conservation topics aimed at students at various grade levels. The curriculum is regularly updated to provide an enjoyable and educational experience for students, as well as to make sure they meet state framework criteria for each grade level.
