{"id":11184,"date":"2018-03-30T15:04:19","date_gmt":"2018-03-30T22:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.santaclaritahomeandgardenshow.com\/upgrade\/?p=11184"},"modified":"2018-03-30T15:04:19","modified_gmt":"2018-03-30T22:04:19","slug":"khts-co-owner-carl-goldman-shares-journey-after-ear-tumor-diagnosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.santaclaritahomeandgardenshow.com\/upgrade\/home-and-garden-news\/khts-co-owner-carl-goldman-shares-journey-after-ear-tumor-diagnosis\/","title":{"rendered":"KHTS Co-Owner Carl Goldman Shares Journey After Ear Tumor Diagnosis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">About three months ago, KHTS Co-Owner Carl Goldman was told that the major hearing loss he had been experiencing in his right ear since last summer was being caused by a tumor.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Though doctors believe the tumor is likely benign, because of its connection with the blood flow in Goldman\u2019s brain, they are currently taking a \u201cwait-and-see\u201d approach over six months before deciding what course of action to take.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIt\u2019s always a challenge when something happens to you physically that people just take for granted, like hearing, so it\u2019s made me become so aware of and appreciative of good health,\u201d Goldman said.<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cI consider myself very, very lucky because I don\u2019t think anything I\u2019m going through is life-threatening, or even that much of a shift in my work habits or anything else, so I\u2019ve basically surrendered to it, embraced it for what it is and now am determined to make the best of it and work through and figure out the best ways I can overcome the challenge.\u201d<b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In summer of 2017 when Goldman first started having hearing problems, he got a free hearing screening from Nola Aronson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/scvadvancedaudiology.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/scvadvancedaudiology.com\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1522532764350000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFqicb_fxV2ekgt4bWVF1cQkus2eg\">Advanced Audiology<\/a>, adding that she has played a major role throughout the process, even working directly alongside his doctors.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cNola has been incredible through this journey,\u201d Goldman said. \u201cShe has been not only very, very understanding, but she\u2019s gone out of her way to find hearing devices, hearing aids that will work best for me. In my situation, I have a little bit of a moving target still \u2026 so she\u2019s been working with me on trying a variety of devices that will give me the best ability to hear, and then I\u2019m going in weekly and fine tuning that so each week my hearing through the devices is getting better and better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hometownstation.com\/santa-clarita-news\/health-and-beauty\/santa-clarita-audiologist-ends-feuds-between-married-couples-about-selective-hearing-by-offering-free-hearing-screenings-226598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Santa Clarita Audiologist Ends Feuds Between Married Couples About Selective Hearing By Offering Free Hearing Screenings<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Jeri Seratti-Goldman said that her husband has lost most of his hearing in his right ear, and that this may be his new reality if doctors decide not to surgically remove the tumor, making Aronson\u2019s dedication to finding a solution that much more meaningful.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThis could be his new way of life,\u201d Seratti-Goldman said. \u201c(Nola\u2019s) perseverance with this is just amazing\u2026 (She\u2019s) trying to get something that will work, and she\u2019s not stopping until she does.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Goldman compared what he\u2019s seen his father-in-law going through getting his hearing aid at a big box store to his own experience working with Aronson, saying, \u201cThe difference on a daily basis is night and day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cHe gets decent care at one of the big box stores \u2026 and probably saves some money doing it, but he is still struggling,\u201d Goldman said. \u201cBecause he chose to go that route instead of someone like Nola, he\u2019s not getting the adjustments and customization that he needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Looking back, Goldman noted his wife was the one to notice the changes in his hearing \u201clong before\u201d he realized there was a problem.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI used to kid around that I was having listening problems with my wife, not hearing problems,\u201d he joked. \u201cAnd I\u2019m sure a lot of other husbands thought they were suffering from listening problems, when in reality it might be a hearing problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The experience of his wife noticing the issue first has been a lesson for Goldman that he is using to encourage others to get a hearing screening as soon as possible if their loved ones say they think there\u2019s a problem.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cMaybe others can benefit from that, that if your spouse starts noticing something or others start noticing something, that should be a good wake-up call,\u201d Goldman said. \u201cBecause the sooner you can deal with it the better.
