{"id":11037,"date":"2018-03-23T16:00:47","date_gmt":"2018-03-23T23:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.santaclaritahomeandgardenshow.com\/upgrade\/?p=11037"},"modified":"2018-03-23T16:00:47","modified_gmt":"2018-03-23T23:00:47","slug":"nola-aronson-of-advanced-audiology-hope-remains-after-being-diagnosed-with-tinnitus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.santaclaritahomeandgardenshow.com\/upgrade\/home-and-garden-news\/nola-aronson-of-advanced-audiology-hope-remains-after-being-diagnosed-with-tinnitus\/","title":{"rendered":"Nola Aronson Of Advanced Audiology: Hope Remains After Being Diagnosed With Tinnitus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Nola Aronson from Advanced Audiology is discussing a number of ways to manage tinnitus &#8212; ringing in the ears &#8212; and believes that it is no longer something a person is forced to live with for the rest of their life.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">An estimated 80 percent of Aronson\u2019s patients have tinnitus, and though different management methods work for different people, she has been able to help an increasing number of her patients dealing with tinnitus thanks to new technology.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hometownstation.com\/santa-clarita-news\/health-and-beauty\/santa-clarita-audiologist-ends-feuds-between-married-couples-about-selective-hearing-by-offering-free-hearing-screenings-226598\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Santa Clarita Audiologist Ends Feuds Between Married Couples About Selective Hearing By Offering Free Hearing Screenings<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cPeople have a really hard time because there is no cure per say for tinnitus, but there are now lots of different avenues of things that we can do, especially if you do have a hearing loss,\u201d Aronson said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">At Advanced Audiology, Aronson uses a special machine called a tinnometer that measures the loudness and pitch of up to four kinds of tinnitus, helping her better determine what management options to start with.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cNot everybody has ringing &#8212; some people have a seashell noise, some people have a screeching,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Individuals who don\u2019t have a hearing loss can distract from their tinnitus using apps on their phone to play different sounds, but people with a tinnitus diagnosis usually do have a high frequency hearing loss, according to Aronson.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIf that\u2019s the case, we can help most of the time with a hearing device, with a masking device,\u201d she said. \u201cA lot of times that takes away the sound or lowers the sound when you\u2019re wearing it, but it\u2019s not a cure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">While the individual\u2019s tinnitus will still be there when they aren\u2019t wearing their hearing or masking device, Aronson explained that by habituating yourself to the sound, it should lessen over time and not bother you as much.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThat\u2019s the point of doing it: so it doesn\u2019t affect your life,\u201d Aronson said, \u201cbecause some people are affected so drastically that they need counselling\u2026 What we try to do is focus in on the counselling aspect and also finding a solution, and not telling people, \u2018Well you just have to live with it.\u2019 We don\u2019t tell people that anymore because there\u2019s lots of different choices; there\u2019s lots of different things you can do.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nola Aronson from Advanced Audiology is discussing a number of ways to manage tinnitus&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":9340,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[1179],"tags":[2757,3058,3116,1101,2911,2761,3005],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.10 -
