Samuel Dixon Family Health Centers, Inc is a lovely primary health care organization that services to all of the people of Santa Clarita. The health center has provided for around 11,000 patients in the past year, with all charges based on the patient’s ability to pay. Kaiser Permanente
Kaiser Permanente has been providing health care for 60 years now and are one of the most valued insurance providers in the Santa Clarita Valley. Kaiser Permanente will be participating at the Santa Clarita Home and Garden Show to present their important service to people of the community.
Kaiser Permanente was an industrial health care insurer in the 1930’s and early 1940’s. The company began when Sydney Garfield, MD, saw an opportunity to help thousands of laborers who were working on the Colorado River Aqueduct Project. Dr. Garfield refused to turn away any sick or injured worker, so he often was left with no payment at all for his services.
It was Harold Hatch, an engineer who later became an insurance agent, who suggested a method of insurance companies paying Dr. Garfield a fixed amount per day. After the Dam was completed the Second World War began, and the Health care provider opened their doors to the public in 1945.
Two unions, the International Longshoremen’s and Warehousemen’s Union and the Retail Clerks Union were responsible for the exponential success of Kaiser Permanente. 10 years after they opened their doors in October 1, 1945 they enrolled 300,000 clients in Northern California alone. The unions were also the driving force in bringing the company to Los Angeles.
