Why Choose A Licensed Audiologist Over Online, Big Box Stores?

You may think you can save a few dollars by getting a hearing aid online or from a big box store, but there are numerous benefits of choosing a licensed audiologist instead — including saving money in the long run, said Advanced Audiology’s Nola Aronson.

“In the world today, they are saying that hearing aids are so expensive, but people don’t realize that we bundle our prices,” Aronson explained. “It’s not only the price of the hearing aid, but it includes service — hearing aids need a lot of service.”

For example, common services are providing new batteries, adjusting the hearing aid and cleaning it occasionally. Further, a licensed audiologist such as Aronson has expert skills in correctly fitting the hearing aid to the client.

“What people don’t realize is, yes you’ll find hearing aids less expensive online because you’re only finding a hearing aid — you’re not finding a person to fit it, you’re not finding any service with it,” Aronson said.

She added, “Hearing aids have to be fit correctly in the ear. If you think the hearing aid is too tinny, how are going to get that changed if there’s nowhere for you to (go)?”

If you’ve heard of others who don’t wear their hearing aids because they don’t work, Aronson says it’s because they decided to order online or go to a big box store.

“Everybody says, ‘Oh, these don’t work,’” she explained. “That’s because they didn’t go to the right person, the person that follows them along and takes care of them the whole time.”

Not only does Aronson have 30 years of experience in the Santa Clarita Valley and 40 years of experience as an audiologist, Aronson has her state licensing in Audiology and hearing aid dispensing.

In addition, she received her Master’s Degree in Audiology from California State University, Long Beach and has certifications of clinical competence from the American Hearing and Speech Association and the American Academy of Audiology.

Like many audiologists today, Aronson is currently faced with a tough decision on whether or not to unbundle her prices in an effort to lower the cost of the actual hearing aid. However, Aronson maintained that she doesn’t believe it should cost her clients every time they need service.

“That’s my philosophy. I’m so used to giving my services away and making it so that people are successful with their hearing so they can lead a better social life,” she said. “It’s really hard for me to change my ways.”
