SCV Water’s gardening classes in Santa Clarita are now virtual, with the first online class set to take place on August 8.
The online transition was made as part of SCV Water’s efforts to help keep customers, staff and the community safe, according to officials.
“Our gardening class program has always been very popular,” said Event Coordinator Karen Denkinger. “We’re really excited to bring them back in a new format so we can continue to serve our customers and community.”
Gardening classes in Santa Clarita can now be attended from home, with one class set to take place per month on a Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
The virtual format will be consistent in terms of content from the classes’ previous in-person offerings, but is expected to be more condensed, with the topic instruction taking place for 45-60 minutes and a question-and-answer session afterward, officials said.

Residents can also view the recorded presentations online for one week after the live class, with participants able to download the presentations as well.
On August 8, the virtual classes kick off with “Basics of Sustainable Landscaping.” Participants can learn about starting a landscape project and the basic elements of sustainable landscaping.
The class is expected to cover how to be “water-wise” and preserve natural resources, but still have a landscape that “meets your needs,” officials said.
The series continues on September 19 with “Water Saving Turf Care and Turf Substitutes,” which will teach attendees to keep their lawn looking its best using turf substitutes.
