Santa Clarita audiologist Nola Aronson noticed a growing number of seniors deciding not to have hearing aids because of the cost, and Aronson explains why hearing aids aren’t all about the price.
“Everybody automatically says they’re too expensive,” Aronson said. “Well how can you afford not to hear? Do you want to miss what your grandchildren are saying? Do you want to have arguments with your spouse because you’re not hearing each other?”
Aronson advises that although some people turn to super stores for lower prices, store employees essentially view hearing aids as a commodity, like tires for a car.

“They’re not a commodity — they are a medical device, and they have to be fit properly. It’s not all about price,” she said. “People take their hearing aids out and don’t wear them because they’re not programmed right, so how much money are you really saving?”
Aronson states that Advanced Audiology offers expert programming, fitting, free batteries, free service and help whenever needed with complete hearing packages.

“Those stores have two-year-old technology, so don’t be fooled that you’re getting the exact same product,” she said.
The state law requires a 45-day test drive on hearing aids, and Aronson encourages residents to compare their results from a big box store with the service from Advanced Audiology.
“See for yourself,” she said. “Do your shopping the correct way, not just by price, because that’s going to hurt you in the long run… Communication is so important in life — how can you put a price on that?”
