The Placerita Canyon Nature Center of the Santa Clarita Valley is a site that inspires passion, awareness and respect for the environment. They work strongly to preserve and protect for future generations the history and ecosystem of Placerita Canyon. The park encompasses oak woodland, chaparral, and riparian plant communities on the north side of the San Gabriel Mountains in the Santa Clarita Valley. They have many activities and wonderful events to keep you and your family interested in the wild life that nature has provided you.
Santa Clarita Nature Center
The park not only serves to conserve a slice of the wild environment, but also endeavors to educate the public on the value of undisturbed flora and fauna through wild animal preservations, nature hikes, and self-guided educational trails. At the nature center, you can find many trails to hike and observe the beauty of nature as it was intended to be seen and appreciated. This running canyon features cool, shaded oak groves, a willow and sycamore lined seasonal stream and numerous other interesting plant and animal communities.
To educate the public on the importance of preserving the nature center, the Placerita Canyon Nature Center offers many different programs to the community. Every Saturday they offer a Family Nature Walk at 11AM and a Native Live Animal Presentation at 1PM. There is no charge for either of these programs, and they are fun for the entire family. Programs and events like these are intended to invite the community to learn more about nature, the local history of the center, and take a hike among the beautiful and very picturesque trails.
The center also provides free parking, clean lavatory access, and clean fresh drinking fountains of water. The staff wants to preserve the quality of the park, so many more from the community can come and visit and not have to be concerned about these services. The staff is very friendly and professional to the visitors and are extremely knowledgeable about the center and the programs and history too.
