Going Green In Santa Clarita
Santa Clarita has been very successful in its efforts to go green. The city replaced 846 high vapor sodium street lights with induction lights. By just switching out the streetlights Santa Clarita has saved more than $49,000. The annual River Rally has removed 436,000 pounds of trash from the Santa Clarita River. Over 91% of construction and demolition debris has been recycled which adds up to over 106,000 tons. The Environmental Services Department main goal is to protect the environment in the Santa Clarita area. The City has established several Environment programs that you can join if you would like to help make an impact on the community. These programs have helped clean up the environment and improve the quality of life here in Santa Clarita.
When it comes to the Residential and Commercial Recycling Programs, businesses have shifted materials from going into landfills and are recycling them for constructive use. The Stormwater Program was designed to protect local waterways from pollution and boost water quality in the Santa Clarita Valley. The Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District is conducting a local planning process to determine the most affordable way to upgrade the Valley’s sewage treatment facilities to meet the State’s strict salt limits. Those are just a few of programs that have been designed for the Santa Clarita Environmental Services have created to help out the environment.
