The Sierra Club

The Sierra Club

One of the world’s largest nature and wildlife preservation organization the Sierra Club has been working to protect our natural habitats since 1892 founded by legendary conservationist John Muir it has since grown to 2.4 million members and has protected 250 million acres all across America with 64 local chapters nationally with the nearest chapter just miles outside of the Santa Clarita Valley. Today the Sierra Club is prominently leading the charge against the use of fossils fuels and advocating for the use of clean renewable energy sources, leading to the retirement of 200 coal fired plants.

Wildlife Preservation Santa Clarita

The Sierra Club has several programs to help preserve the wildlife and natural habitats of America including Ready for 100% which is a program dedicated to getting leaders all across the United States to commit to 100% clean energy, Beyond Coal which is a program dedicated to getting companies to stop using the dirtiest energy source in use today which is coal, Beyond Oil which is a group that is dedicated to getting the United States to move past using oil as our main energy source, Beyond Natural Gas which is working to getting the United States to move past using natural gas as a main energy source, and Our Wild America which is a group that is always working towards protecting the United States wildlife and natural habitats from threats such as mining, drilling, and climate disruption. Getting involved in these important issues is easy to do even from right here in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The Sierra Club makes getting involved with protecting the environment fun and easy with chapters all over the country and over 20,000 outing and trips a year where you can experience and appreciate the very same wild life areas that you can fight to protect. The trips can take place all over the country, one that is coming up just later this month is a trip to the Chiricahua Wilderness to work on the trails there improving their quality and to follow in the footsteps of legendary Native American Geronimo.
