Greater SCV Optimist Club

The Greater Santa Clarita Valley Optimist Club is the local chapter of Optimist International. Optimist International is a service club organization with 2,900 clubs and almost 87,000 members in more than 35 nations throughout the world. “Bringing out the best in kids,” is the motto of Optimist International, which achieves this by promoting scholarship and community service.

The Greater Santa Clarita Valley Optimist Club was chartered in January 1997. The local chapter is currently run by President Lillian Shaw. Optimists spend much of their time performing selfless service for the community. Through this organization, Santa Clarita youth can make an immediate and lasting impact on their hometown. Kids can make friends, learn about various industries and career fields, and strengthen their relationships and self-esteem.

Students can find a variety of academic and social opportunities through Optimist International. The Santa Clarita chapter holds oratorical and essay contests for its youth, who can go on to participate in nationwide competitions. Prizes include scholarships worth up to $2,500.

Optimists Conduct 65,000 Service Projects Each Year, Serving Six Million Young People

Optimist International also offers membership events that provide youth with great times and lasting memories. Every year, the organization holds a leadership summit, helping to develop the next generation of leaders around the world. The summit is an intense daylong experience that provides members with the skills and abilities necessary to lead any organization. Aspiring business leaders, entrepreneurs, and self-starters can certainly benefit from the knowledge this summit has to offer.

Kids can also engage with like-minded peers at fun and exciting events in the local area. The Greater Santa Clarita Valley Optimist Club will provide free child fingerprinting at the 2015 Santa Clarita Home and Garden Show on April 25 and 26 at the Hyatt Regency in Valencia, so parents can have a set on file.

Overall, Optimists conduct 65,000 service projects each year, serving six million young people. They also spend $78 million on their communities per year. As part of this tremendous organization, members of the Greater Santa Clarita Valley Optimist Club truly make the world a better place to live. This chapter meets at Mimi’s Café in the Target shopping center on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month.
