City of Santa Clarita

The City of Santa Clarita was incorporated on December 15, 1987.  It’s the third largest city in Los Angeles County and the 18th largest city in the state of California.  Formed out of the union of several previously existing communities – including Newhall, Canyon Country, Saugus, and Valencia – Santa Clarita has garnered a strong reputation for the high quality of life enjoyed by its citizens.  One reason for this is the city’s comprehensive emergency services and proactive public safety programs.

The City of Santa Clarita works with many organizations to ensure that the city remains safe and functioning in case of emergencies.  The Los Angeles County Fire Department (Battalion 6 and Battalion 22) and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station (a branch of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department) provide their services to the community.  Their ranks contain some of the finest first responders in the nation, but these agencies and the city believe one of the best ways to keep Santa Clarita safe is to have everyone involved.  Witnesses to crimes in Santa Clarita can take action by reporting crimes anonymously, over the phone or online, to Los Angeles Regional Crime Stoppers.  Residents who subscribe to Santa Clarita’s Nixie community information service can receive timely and trustworthy information about their neighborhood in the event of an emergency.  Important messages, communicated by way of text, email, and social media, may include public safety emergency information about brush fires, earthquakes, road conditions or closures, evacuations, and other relevant safety and community event information.  Santa Clarita’s CERT (Community Emergency Response Training) program is designed to help families, neighborhoods, schools and businesses prepare for effective disaster/emergency response through training and preplanning.  Participants can use the knowledge to help save lives and protect property during life threatening situations.  Santa Clarita also has a Graffiti Task Force and an Emergency Communications Team, in which city employees and members of the community work together to assist the city in mitigating crime, and in emergency response and recovery operations.

Santa Clarita is One of The Safest Cities To Live

Based on FBI statistics, Santa Clarita is consistently ranked as one of the safest cities of its size (population over 150,000) in the nation.  This can be attributed to Santa Clarita’s many programs and services that allow residents to remain prepared, informed, and involved in case of or during emergencies.
