Charlie Hulien is the owner of Handcrafted by Charlie. Before he started his wood crafting business, he had lived a long and full life. He joined the Navy 2 weeks after he graduated high school and was Aviation Electrician’s Mate, First Class Petty Officer. He was a P3 Orion Flight Engineer and a P3 Orion Maintenance Instructor. And he was a electrical & pilot / Flight Engineer Familiarization. After he left the Navy he began working for Lockheed California Co. as a P3 Field Service Tech Rep. He also worked at Lockheed Skunk Works as a F117A Stealth Fighter Training Specialist. In addition to that he was also a F117A Stealth Fighter Production
Quality Engineer Senior, with Top Secret Clearance. He worked with its electrical, mechanical, structural, hydraulic, landing gear, and fuel for 7 years. He worked with Lockheed until 1990 when he was laid off because they closed the Lockheed Burbank plant that he worked at. After the lay off he worked as extra, stand in, and actor for TV and movie productions with the Screen Actors Guild for 14 years; and then Lockheed rehired him.

He has also had a very busy personal life. In 1966 he got divorced and was granted full custody of his then 2 year old daughter, Sherry. He was a proud single father and even named his truck, that he drove across the country from NAS Norfolk, VA to NAS Point Mugu, CA with his daughter in 1977, SHERRY’S DADDY. He loves his daughter and now has 2 amazing grandchildren. On Valentine’s day he married his new wife, and even hired a Barber Shop Quartet to sing at his wedding.
In regards to Charlie’s woodworking, he has built many everyday household items such as beds, cribs, dressers, tables, stools and chests. He also makes a special time out chair that has a sand timer built in. He has very sturdy and inventive creations.
