Santa Clarita Audiologist Nola Aronson

Santa Clarita Audiologist Nola Aronson describes health problems that can arise from hearing loss and why a hearing test can potentially change that.

“Our goal is to educate as many people as possible,” said Aronson. “Including the physicians that we go around and talk to just so they keep up on the latest.”

Aronson shared a story where she spoke with a friend who was having some hearing issues, but her friend wasn’t sure what the problem was.

“She was having trouble hearing out of one ear,” details Aronson. “It turned out she had an acoustic tumor. It’s on the acoustic nerve, which is in your brain stem. It turned out to be benign, most of them are benign but if it didn’t, it could’ve gone into other areas and affected other things.”

Hearing aids have changed over time, according to Aronson. She says that with hearing aids in the past, the background noise seemed louder than the speech.

“Now with the new technology you can actually understand speech in noise. It doesn’t necessarily take away noise, that’s a misconception that people have,” Aronson says. “It’s not going to reduce the noise, it’s going to enhance the speech. And the speech is much more clear and more natural sounding.”

Advanced Audiology gave over 1,000 free hearing tests in our community last year. This year, Aronson hopes to provide 1,500 free hearing tests by the time the year is over, and at this point they have provided around 1,000.

“Come on everybody, you’ve got to come help us make our goal so that we know that we’re helping our community with their hearing,” Aronson concluded. “You don’t necessarily have to think you have a hearing problem, just come on in and we’ll tell you that you don’t have a hearing problem.”
