Ruby Springs Lodge in Alder Montana began it’s fly fishing season last weekend but is still welcoming Santa Clarita locals to visit and join in on the fun.
“We’ve got a great season, mother nature has been kind,” said John Sampson of Ruby Springs Lodge. “By that I mean snowpack is at average or a little bit higher than average, which bodes very well for water levels throughout the summer. Which really is the most important part to the healthy fishery.”
Fly rods, waders and wading boots as well as a fully stocked tackle shop and guides are included for guests who stay at Ruby Springs Lodge.
“You could have travelled the world and been to New Zealand or Mongolia or Costa Rica — everywhere, all over the place — fly fishing, or you can have never seen a fly fishing rod and just want to be exposed to the experience,” says Sampson. “You can just really show up.”
While there are opportunities to bike, hike and golf as well, the avenue to get to these activities is fly fishing, according to Sampson.

“Everywhere has golf courses and hiking trails and biking trails and opportunities to recreate,” he said, adding that, “A lot of times people may do that after their day of fishing.”
Sampson urges anyone wishing to book to do it soon, as the lodge has limited space left. The fly fishing season will end by late October, followed by hunting opportunities.
