The Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita is an animal rescue that rescues animals from severe abuse and neglect who are to old, sick, lame, or scared to be adopted into homes. They are a sanctuary to horses, donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, turkeys, chickens, llamas, peacocks, emus, cats and dogs. Once the animals are rehabilitated, they give hope and inspiration to children with somewhat similar stories, as compared to what these animals have gone through as well. They help heal each other n ways that are truly amazing. Seeing animals interact with children shows the love and respect they have for each other.
Opening the barn doors in 1999, The Gentle Barn has always been a vision Ellie Laks growing up. Growing up she faced challenges, like we all have during our formative years. Animals have always seemed a great source of comfort for her. With a passion for education and animals, she decided to tie the two together, and open the facility. The Barn is a six-acre paradise in Santa Clarita. The property is complete with large horses and cow pastures, a red and white barnyard for the smaller animals, an organic vegetable garden, lots of shade trees, and a panoramic view of gorgeous mountains. With over one hundred and seventy rescued animals, they are safe and happy at The Gentle Barn, there is plenty of room for their visitors and children they host.
With rescuing animals, The Gentle Barn practices this same treatment with children too. Animals want unconditional love. Besides having food, the love and affection is a desire they crave. They are our best source of emotional rehabilitation. Children can be put through a lot these days. They need something to love. They need to feel love while recovering, and why not choose animals. Through the interactions with animals, kids learn forgiveness, courage, strength, leadership skills, trust, empathy and kindness. The healing process that takes place between the kids and the animals can be considered miraculous. You can see a whole new kid right before your eyes.
