Scentsy Fragrances is a direct selling company and an international leader in the fragrance industry. They offer a simple and unique flagship product, which attributes to much their success. The product is a scented, wickless candle heated in decorative ceramic warmers, providing an alternative to traditional burned wick candles. They will be showcasing this among their other products at the Santa Clarita Home and Garden Show.
Scentsy started with Oroville Thompson, the founder, and his entrepreneurial spirit. The company had its humble beginnings in March 2004 when Orville attended a Salt Lake City, Utah home show. He wrote a check to the show promoter, saying, “This check is bad. Don’t cash it, but please let me set up. I will buy this check back from you with cash by the end of the show.” The promoter agreed. Orville set up his booth selling 64-in-1 video game controllers across the aisle from two stay-at-home moms who were selling decorative warmers designed to melt scented wax with the heat of a light bulb instead of a traditional wick and flame.

Scentsy’s Wickless Candle Concept
Over the course of the next few days, Oroville was fascinated by the wickless candle concept. He traded a few video game controllers for a candle warmer, several wickless candles, and a set of scent testers. From there he started a tiny office in Indiana, which eventually became the thriving international business it is today.
