Quilting is more than a pastime or a hobby – it’s an art form. A quilt is essentially a blank canvas brought to life with needle and thread, capable of painting pictures, telling stories, and commenting on the world at large. Consequently, quilting can be an outlet for creative expression, but distinguished from similar activities in that it doesn’t have to be done alone. It can be a great way to meet friends, have fun, and give back to the community. Experience all this and more as a member of the Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild, a nonprofit organization that’s been spreading the joy of quilting since 1990.

The Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild is an active presence in the local community, with a current enrollment of 120 members. They hold monthly meetings, quilt shows, and workshops that feature national and international quilting celebrities. Program topics can range from scrap management to the history of quilting, and are an engaging way for members to learn more about the history of their craft and improve their technique. They welcome members of all ages and backgrounds, and attendance on non-speaker nights is free! Bring friends, family members, and neighbors, and learn a new hobby while having fun in a close-knit, supportive environment.

Members can also find genuine pleasure in assisting their community through the Guild’s frequent fundraisers and events supporting youth and need-based organizations. Contribute to one of the Guild’s many quilts that are auctioned off each year to raise money for charities like The Hole in the Wall Gang, United Cerebral Palsy, and the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry. Design a panel for a quilt to be donated to the city of Santa Clarita, and preserved as representation of the community. Create bags to raise money to fund breast cancer research in partnership with Helping Hands, Helping Hearts. As exemplified by the AIDS Memorial Quilt in Washington D.C., a quilt is a powerful symbol of comfort, healing, and unity. Every inch is stitched with love and care, and takes time and dedication to craft. Therefore, quilts can make a world of difference for those in need. Through the Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild, participate in quilt-making for a good cause and affect the lives of people around the world.

Quilting is an activity that anyone can learn, and can instill patience, dedication, and discipline in all who try. As a member of the Santa Clarita Valley Quilt Guild, you’ll experience a sense of belonging, learn a new skill, and serve something bigger than yourself. All ages and backgrounds are welcome – join today!
